Old Enough For Faerie Tales

by Lonely Mountain Band

/

about

This is a song with lyrics inspired by the writings of C.S. Lewis & J.R.R. Tolkien, and specifically by the line by Lewis: “Someday you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.” Astute fans of Lewis & Tolkien might notice some other familiar words & phrases in the lyrics. D&D players from the 70s & 80s, and really any role-playing gamers, whether table-top or in online MMOs, should also sense a kinship or something familiar in the lyrics.

This song was first released as a bonus track on the Official Soundtrack of the Movie: Rise of the Fellowship - which you can purchase here: swordsongrecords.com/album/rise-of-the-fellowship-original-soundtrack

lyrics

Remember when we chased dragons
Remember long days
now gone by
There was neither night nor day
but an ever-eve of glooming light
when first there glimmered into sight
our Cottage of Lost Play

Chorus:
Oh one day we'll be strong enough
to sing these songs again
Some day we'll be old enough
to read these fairy tales... again

Remember when we were free to dream
and every waking star
led us to play
There was no grind from day to night
no bitter hearts or loveless wight
and off we rode in matchless might
from our castle to win the day

Chorus

Remember when we forgot the way
and every winding path
led us astray
to riches trapped in towers tall
with heroes only raised to fall
And every heart behind a wall
hoping for someday
